Why is oil finish important?

Finishing your wooden floors is extremely important, it effect as a barrier between the natural wood and everything that it contacts with – foot traffic, pets, heavy furniture and other surface objects. It helps extend the floorboards life and helps keep your floor looking wonderful for longer time period.

Oil penetrates into the wood and accentuates both the colour and grain of the floor, whilst also making a protection layer. The molecules in the oil are small enough to seep deep down into the wood and make a strong form of protection. This also prevents the look and feel of a gloss on the surface of the floor. In addition to providing a natural outlook, oiled floors offer the chance of being spot repaired in the event of surface damage.

The colour and finish of the oils is completely up to you. Finishes include glossy, satin, semi-matt and matt. An oil finish is extremely durable and hardwearing which helps protect your wooden floors from getting used. Other positive thing for an oil finish is that it enhances the woods natural character. An oil finish protection will help your wooden floor to deal with the scratches and traffic to 10 years!

5 things that are harming your wooden flooring and how to prevent them

Wooden flooring can add a timeless and cosy element to any room, as well as create a clean, easy to maintain surface for some of the most heavily-used rooms in the house. It really doesn’t take very much to keep a wooden floor looking as good as new, adn here are some tips to help you doing it!

Scratching – As we drag furniture and move household stuff around we harm our flooring surface, to prevent scratches you can start using floor protectors. They must be placed underneath furniture items. They got popular by getting used furniture such as tables and chairs, TV cabinets. Using rubber or felt floor protectors also helps you in cleaning the floor easier! With those items you’ll be albe to slide the furniture without worrying about damaging the floor!

Vacuuming – Vacuum with a rotating brush could be a very abrasive to your hardwood floors. For weekly cleaning you can use a vacuum with a simple floor brush attachment. If you do it daily you can opt for a soft, bristle broom or a mop that has been treated with a dusting agent to pick up even of pet hair and little dust !

Using water too often on your flooring –  Althought modern floor types these days are  more water resistant, cleaning with a wet mop needs to be done only on each one- two months depending on big the foot traffic is in this specific area. As you know – the dirt and oil can build up over time, as you are using a high class wood-cleaning product you are preventing it, but for a complete prevention you might wipe up any excess moisture to prevent standing water!

Leaving the dirt too long before cleaning – Dirt and dust can scratch your floor when they stay for too long on it’s surface. You may prevent this by placing mats on both the inside and outside of main doors in home or office, so they can capture the dirt when people enter. By cleaning the floor regularly and using those simple methods your floors will be protected!

Rough cleaning of stain– Avoid using steel wool, harsh chemicals or scouring powder to remove the spot marks because you are only harming your flooring doing this. Instead we suggest you to opt for a soft cloth soaked in flooring cleaner and gently try to remove the mark by hand, if it doesn’t work you may call an expert because an advice from our carpenters is – try not to clean your floors in sections!

How to keep a wooden floor looking as good as new?

Wooden flooring can add a timeless and cosy element to any room, as well as create a clean, easy to maintain surface for some of the most heavily-used rooms in the house. It really doesn’t take very much to keep a wooden floor looking as good as new, adn here are some tips to help you doing it!

Avoid scratches and scuffs early -You can start protecting the floor from the moment it is fitted by adding felt pads to the bottoms of any cabinets, tables and chairs which are likely to be moved across the floor. These are inexpensive and will make all of the difference to the condition of the floor over time. It may also be a good idea to make it a rule within the home that people take their shoes off when they come in.

Regular cleaning- Although wooden flooring is much easier to maintain than carpets, it still does require regular upkeep. The easiest way for you to do this is with a dust pad on a broom handle. This will pick up all of the dust, hair and micro fibres and make for a much cleaner result than simply using a vacuum cleaner. If you are going to use a vacuum cleaner, remember to flip down the brushes on the head to avoid scratches on the floor. You can use water to clean the flooring, but remember that a sponge is better than a mop!

Regular sanding and waxing- Obviously this doesn’t need to be performed all of the time, but regular floor sanding and waxing will bring the floor back to life in a way that cleaning cannot. Even once every year or so will have the floor looking like it was just laid.

We offer specialist floor sanding services, wood floor scratch repair and wood floor refinishing. Just call or email to get started bringing your floors back to life.
